making dolls with dolls

I had some innocent victims over today. Sometimes it's just nice to play with other peoples kids instead of your own. My cousins kids were left up to my care and we had us some good times.  I thought they would love the pool. They liked the pool... the whole 15 minutes they were in it. Then they liked the snacks and sitting on their towels in the shade chatting. I think they are still too young to check out the hoard of teenage life guards (who blew their whistles like mad and dove in to get James out quick as he strayed to close to the rope, while I was chatting up other moms not paying attention to anything much at all. yes, still going for worst mom of the year 3rd year in a row now.) When we got back we decided to make dolls, like glamtastic Raggedy Ann dolls. These took 6 hours longer then we anticipated. Thank goodness for hot glue guns or they might still be over here working away like Santa's elves on Christmas Eve. This is Macey's Annie doll. All she needed was a pi...

a bookcase gets yet another makeover

Image
Jason had this honey brown bookcase when he was young & brought it with him when we married. It was in our front room for a few years and then when Paige was a baby, it was repainted and given a shabby chic appearance . It's new duty was to hold her diapers, books, & little things. When we moved into our current house. It became my bookcase for the schoolroom. After so many years it has turned gray and needed new life breathed in. So Paige & I painted it and resurfaced the shelves with fabric, you can see the step by step process by clicking here . Doesn't it look great at home in the school room all snuggly and filled with books?

Paige's Ghost tutorial

Image
Paige has been obsessed with making ghosts. She wanted me to post these pictures we took the 1st night I showed her how to make them. Since that time she has made tons. I am finding cotton balls everywhere. Paige loves crafts & making things so much, I can see her having a very crafty future ahead of her - more over Martha Here's how we did it (not that you can't figure it out on your own)... Wrap a cotton ball in tissue and use a piece of yarn to tie it closed. Draw on a face and skewer the head with a needle & fishing wire. Make dozens of them to hang up and give to anyone who walks through your front door.

So this is really what made me want to start blogging (more than peer pressure). Isn't she so cute? She was completely into sculpting these little pb men This one is hers. Notice the the belly button. Actually I think hers is a girl (not anatomically correct, thank goodness!) She made her with long hair. This one is mine. What? I couldn't let my five year old have all the fun. My little pb man reminds me of "the Wemmicks " from Max Lucado's book, I am Special. (not that I am comparing myself to Eli or anything - if you have no clue what I am referring to... you really should read the book. Try to do more with your life then just reading boring blogs on the i nternet about moms that think their kids are so freakin wonderful) Here are the little pb kids just chilling on some soft parchment paper. Paige was pretty intense when crafting her art. Surprisingly she didn't even pause to pose for a picture. She is even wearing the apron I made her (sniff, sniff...
