San Diego - Beach Day (La Jolla)

In the middle of our week in San Diego we went and saw the sights. I had researched a little about the area and found a few things that I thought our kids would love to see.

The large rock is covered with seals & birds. This beach we went to was called "Children's Pool" in the 1930's it was blasted out to create a small swimming area and was dedicated for Children's use. I'm not sure when the coversion happened, but it now is the coolest hangout for seals.

There had to have been a dozen or so seals hanging about this area.

This tiny beach is called Shell Beach. It is across from Children's Beach and gives you a good unobtrusive view of the rock & seals.

We decided to spend the day at La Jolla beach which was rated #1 for families. As you can tell it was not crowded (it was mid 60's) but the water was actually quite nice. La Jolla is the site of an underwater park and there were quite a few scuba divers we watched while we were there. 

Here is a brave seal that climbed up on the lookout walkway.

This is the walkway that you can go out & check out the seals without disturbing their environment.

We went to downtown San Diego & ate a fancy pant dinner in the gaslamp district. They had some scrumptious pasta. Here is Paige & James enjoying some yummy gelato.

The Children's Beach is tiny & it is available for public use, but there are some "Sealots" (Seal enthusiasts) who sit at the top of the stairs & discourage people from going onto the beach, the signs let you know it is your choice (but are laden thickly with guilt).

James got in and out of the water in record time then complained at how cold he was for the rest of the time we were there. My poor little Arizona blooded boy.

What a great trip! Lots of fun pics! Glad you had a great time:) I still cant believe you were so close & didnt go to Disneyland:)

That Children's beach is so neat. We went there on Kristina's 5th grade fieldtrip. They had a blast. Loved all your pictures. Of course it is never a vacation unless someone gets sunburned on the first day. Bummer for poor Abbey. That is usually me that gets it on ours.

Abbey loves jumping out of the tub and streaking through the house every chance she can get. I found her in the bathroom brushing her teeth on such an occasion. Paige spent a Saturday with achievement day girls at the church. They did mini-classes and held a luncheon.  Paige came home wearing this cute banner that said "Miss Fabulous" - she had a goodie bag, a rose, and a pretty picture they had taken of her in a crown. What a gorgeous princess! A few days later we had a princess day. Actually once a week we have boys/girls day. Where the kids get a play date. These girls got all dolled up. They had a blast. our baby has "indoor plumbing"

The nice thing about my Thursday appointment was knowing the end was in sight. Sunday morning 5:30am I was scheduled to be induced. So we cleaned our house like mad on Saturday and my kids spent the night at their grandparents. We were up and ready to go. Paige drew me this picture before we left. Right to left: New baby, me, nightstand with cookies & candy (does my daughter know me or what?) When we got there - I needed some serious help to get ready to have the baby. I was dilated to a 2 and my cervix was really thick. So they gave me some internal gels that caused me to contract, I went through a series of 2, which means 5 hours of hell. It hurt & was a crappy 5 hours - but then my best friend came along, the anesthesiologist and gave me the epidural. Then they started the pitosum , which caused additional labor to set on... a Christmas wish answered... come September

So anyone who hasn't heard yet... yes. The Buchanan's are going to have a baby come this September. I'm not sure how it happened (yeah. I get the mechanics... I do have 2 kids) - But it's just that Jason & I don't really see too much of each other and after an exausting day of work, school, being on call, preschool, doing homework, research for thesis, paying bills, sewing group, YW, and kids, all you really have energy for is sleep. So I really think I give credit to Paige for this one. She has put in countless hours praying, wishing, and begging for a baby for the longest time. All her hard work millions of wishes on stars and countless letters to Santa apparently paid off. (She's got a lot of clout with the bearded fella - so if you want something for next year you might want to bribe her early to include it in her letter(s)). That's it... I'm eight weeks and thrilled. We'll keep praying that everything goes smoothly & the baby is heal
