family night out (aka... FHE)

So the Buchanan's have been slackers for the last 5 or so years - but we did our first FHE Monday night. It turned out pretty fun. Jason was working at the hospital late so we met him at the Toys R'Us in Awutukee. We hung out and let the kids figure out what to put on their Christmas lists this year (hoping to give Santa a heads up so he can start buying early and when things go on sale - rather then the week before). We went out to Mimi's Cafe after for dinner (Paige's favorite restaurant) - and the kids didn't get to bed til after 8pm. That's a pretty wild night out for us.

Also it gave Paige a chance to figure out what she really wants to save her money for. She loves doing odd jobs to earn money, and before she would buy "daughters" (Polly Pocket sized Disney Princesses) now that she owns all of them a couple times over - we thought she needed to save for bigger things. This summer she saved up and bought a fish tank and her first beta fish that she named "Cody Mack Scrouch Buchanan" after her baby cousin. Well, after our FHE night out she decided she wants a digital camera & "heely-ish" type shoe/skates combo. It's a great goal because it not only teaches her to save, work hard, and be thifty - but she has also learned the concept of tithing. She's my good girl.

Wow Buchanans, you guys are so good for having FHE! It looks like it was lots o' fun. It's such a good idea to have her save for something. I'll have to jot that down the "Things I've Learned From Maren" notebook I am keeping. Have FHE AND teach kids earn and save their money...two in one night!

The nice thing about my Thursday appointment was knowing the end was in sight. Sunday morning 5:30am I was scheduled to be induced. So we cleaned our house like mad on Saturday and my kids spent the night at their grandparents. We were up and ready to go. Paige drew me this picture before we left. Right to left: New baby, me, nightstand with cookies & candy (does my daughter know me or what?) When we got there - I needed some serious help to get ready to have the baby. I was dilated to a 2 and my cervix was really thick. So they gave me some internal gels that caused me to contract, I went through a series of 2, which means 5 hours of hell. a Christmas wish answered... come September

So anyone who hasn't heard yet... yes. The Buchanan's are going to have a baby come this September. I'm not sure how it happened (yeah. I get the mechanics... I do have 2 kids) - But it's just that Jason & I don't really see too much of each other and after an exausting day of work, school, being on call, preschool, doing homework, research for thesis, paying bills, sewing group, YW, and kids, all you really have energy for is sleep. So I really think I give credit to Paige for this one. She has put in countless hours praying, wishing, and begging for a baby for the longest time. All her hard work millions of wishes on stars and countless letters to Santa apparently paid off. (She's got a lot of clout with the bearded fella - so if you want something for next year you might want to bribe her early to include it in her letter(s)). That's it... I'm eight weeks and thrilled. We'll keep praying that everything goes smoothly & the baby is heal...

The final chapter of the Buchanan saga

It's official - we heard the heartbeat on Wednesday - this is the cause of my nauseated state of being 24/7. There is actually a little peanut causing all this havoc on my body. Everything seems to be going really well. My progesterone levels were low so they put me on a supplement and I'm trying to live with the side effects while Jason claims there are no big changes (I always break out crying, right? - ha, ha, ha) Actually, it does have a slew of side effects, but I seem to be affected by 3: sleepiness, irritability, and anxiety. Serious anxiety over the littlest dumbest things (makes me crazy) and it sucks that my one good quality (patience) is in short supply. Yesterday during preschool my kids were looking at me like 'why does she think she has to bribe us for every little thing?' - please, please, please put your shoes on, I will give you an m&m - come on just help pick up, I will give you and m&m - poor things.
