Saturday is a special day...

I've officially turned into my mom. We all know it will happen to us eventually and bit by bit we watch our sanity slip away and we hear her phrases issue from our mouths. Well, yesterday I broke down. I turned into my mom, "a Saturday slave driver".

Saturday mornings at my house growing up were always about doing chores. I remember we had to be home from sleep overs at 9am (the very latest) & then we'd clean like mad until noon or 1pm. When she would release us from bondage. I stepped into those shoes yesterday. It's no fun trying to clean 9 months pregnant & my kids would lay in front of the TV all day if I let them. Normally they are just in charge of keeping their bedrooms clean or helping me pick up around the house or do special projects (like wash walls).
This week we indulged in some deep cleaning. James helped clean the main bathroom, vacuumed his bedroom, and put away his laundry. Paige cleaned my bathroom, vacuumed the front room and her bedroom, and folded & put away her laundry. It's not so easy to clean with kids and often times you end up doing more work - but in the long run I know I am doing them a service. They will appreciate the time & cleaning habits they learned early on in life, as I appreciate what my mom taught me & how it helps me to keep a clean house.

Isn't that why we had kids? To clean? Wait, that one totally backfired on me!

Thats totally how i grew up too, so i HATED Saturdays b/c of course we took forever to finish our chores...but i agree i totally appreciate it now!! Good job! Too bad, when boys love to play in toilets we dont let them but when they are old enough to, they hate them!! Thats life i suppose!

The worst part of Sat was wanting to sleep in and couldn't because there was chores and yard work to get done. I hated waking up at7 or 8 to do things that were not at all fun. But it is true, your kids will appreciate it in the end!

I have a magnet on my fridge that reads, "Despite years of personal development, she still turned into her mother." It's a vicious, but necessary cycle, isn't it?

By the way, can your cleaning crew come to my house next Sat? Ty is useless as a slave unless it involves eating leftovers. :)

My mom was the worst of them all I think I make my kids do the same thing and you are right it takes longer and is more work right now to have them help but ut will pay off for us too in the long run when we can leave them to do it and know they are doing it how we like! having 3 kids will pay off one day hee hee

That's how I grew up too! I hated Saturdays. Now I understand why all the child labor :) I already give Jace small chores to help him learn. But, somehow, he likes to clean....for now. Congrats on having the baby sooner! Yahoo! Can't wait to see that little bundle.
